The first importance of a newspaper in its news value. Science has brought us closer. We cannot neglect the happening of thousands of kilometres away. The educational importance of a newspaper is very great. Only bookish knowledge cannot make us up-to-date. It is not possible for any book to have the latest information in it. A newspaper gives us up-to-date information about everything. We find beautiful descriptions of the geography of a country, the history of a kingdom in it. We get lots of other things in a newspaper.

The third value of a newspaper is its pleasure value. The daily routine of work makes our life dull. We find news about sports, games and films. Such news gives relief to our mind.

The fourth value of a newspaper is its views value. A newspaper expresses its opinion on many problems of public importance. Thus it plays a very important part in democracy.

A newspaper is a must for us in this world. Firstly, it is a source of propaganda. Secondly, the prices of things go up and down. A businessman or even a common man must keep himself informed of all these things. Thirdly, it is a connecting link between the government and the public. In this sense, a newspaper is the voice of the people. Fourthly, a newspaper is cheap. Every man of even small income can have it.

But a newspaper must not spread rumours. It should educate the public. W. Phillips rightly says, “We live under a government of men and morning newspapers.
