India is a country of
fairs and festivals. People of different religions live in India. They observe
their festival in their own way. Durga Puja, Deepawali, Saraswati Puja and Holi are some of the festivals of the Hindus.
Id and Muhurrum are the main festivals of the Muslims. Easter and Christmas are
the chief festivals of the Christians.
In India, Holi is a
very important festival. It is a festival of joy. The rich and the poor, the
high and the low come together. All of them look mad with joy. In fact, it is a
festival of eating, drinking and dancing. The young and the old being to play like
children on this occasion.
Like every other
festival, Holi has a History behind it. People believe that this festival is
related to the burning of Holika. Holika was Prahalad's aunt. Hiranyakashipu
was Prahalad,s father who put his son his son into the fire with Holika. The
woman, Holika was fire-proof. Prahalad had full faith in God helped Prahalad.
Holika was burnt and Prahalad was saved. It shows the victory of virtue over
vice.
But this festival has
some evils, too. Some people Misbehave with others. They sing vulgar songs.
They throw dirty water, mud and even stones at others. This kills the very
spirit of Holi. Sometimes communal riots take place. Abir and coloured water
are the symbols of joy and love. They should not create ugly situations at any
cost.
